James's TJ
I've
been in to 4x4's as long as I can remember. My dad bought a 1976 Ford F-150 (the
first year they made them) it had a 360, 4 speed, factory 6" lift and
33"s. (I think that's right) at the time I thought it was about the baddest
truck in town. And I learned how to drive by six years old, though my brother
had to help me with the peddles, since I wasn't quite tall enough. My brother
got the truck for graduation and eventually traded it in.
I had wanted a jeep ever since I was a kid, due to all the easy modifications
you can do, I like my rig to look different. My grandfather left me a house in
which Florida law forced me to sell in '98. ( side note: most wills are not
worth the paper their written on) anyway. So I took what little money I was
eligible for from the sell of the house and set out to find a jeep. I was
looking at a '96 until I found out about the coil suspension system they started
using in '97. It makes the road ride a lot smother and improves off road prowess
as well. So I decided it was going to be a '97 or newer. I found it in the auto
trader. It was less than a year old garage kept, and being sold by an idiot as
the result of a divorce. I paid him 16k cash and had it on a "trail"
before the day was out. I put Wet Okole seat covers, driving lights, a light bar
with 4 100 watt floods, a Bestop bikini top + center window, and Nerf bars (
courtesy of a friends drunk girlfriend that shattered my right running board
with her van.)
Due to me being on disability, it stayed that way until last month when I got a
deal on a 4" lift and five, 33"x12.5"s, "thanks Barry"
and a good deal on the install too. "thanks Joe".
Future mods include E lockers, winch, and 33"x14" TSL Boggers. After
that, who knows.
